Foreign Trade Black Athletic Shorts Review: Measured Fit on a $7.46 Polyester Five-Point Cut

We ordered, filmed and measured the Foreign Trade black athletic shorts in size L: polyester, slight stretch, mid-thigh five-point cut. The tape matched the listing; a published size chart did not exist.

Foreign Trade Black Athletic Shorts Review: Measured Fit on a $7.46 Polyester Five-Point Cut

Order date: 5 August 2026. Parcel reached our Rotterdam desk: 21 August 2026. SKU 7720570468, listed at $7.46 USD against an $8.51 reference price.

This is the kind of listing that stands or falls on a tape measure. The page describes a straight-leg, mid-thigh short in polyester with slight stretch, a drawstring waist, script lettering across the front and small patch details on the lower legs, priced at the bottom of the catalog. There are no buyer reviews attached to it, so nothing on the page can be cross-checked against other people's experience. That is exactly the gap our testing desk ordered into.

What we ordered and what arrived

We bought one pair in black, size L, and filmed the unboxing before the bag was cut open. The parcel arrived as a folded poly mailer with a light corner crush and no water damage; the shorts inside were clean, unmarked and still creased along the factory fold lines. The woven label reads Chensida, which is the supplier name behind the Foreign Trade brand line on the listing. Our size L weighs 213 g on the desk scale.

The packaging carried no retail hangtag, only a thin poly bag with a printed size sticker. That is normal for factory-source stock and not a fault by itself, but it does mean the size sticker was the only size marker until we checked the inside label.

Three-point measurement

Priya Raghavan measures every apparel item at three fixed points against the seller's own size chart, then again after one cold wash. Because this listing publishes no waist, hip or inseam figures, we requested flat measurements in a message before ordering and compared the delivered pair against those numbers.

Measurement pointSeller figure (size L)Our size L, flat
Waist, drawstring relaxed39 cm39 cm
Hip, 3 cm below waistband52 cm52.5 cm
Inseam17 cm17 cm
Outseam, waistband to hem47 cm47 cm
Leg opening, flat27 cm26.5 cm

Nothing drifted beyond half a centimetre, which is unusually tidy for a listing with no published chart. Two editors signed off on the fit note before it went into the file. The practical read: a size L sits at roughly an 82 cm relaxed waist and lands mid-thigh on a 178 cm frame, above the knee with about a hand's width of clearance.

Fabric and construction

The care label lists polyester as the main fibre, matching the catalogue spec, and the hand feel is a light plain weave with a dry, faintly textured face. Stretch is slight, as advertised: we could pull roughly 2 cm across the leg panel and it recovered fully. Seam allowance on the side seams runs about 1 cm, overlocked rather than folded and twin-needled, and the waistband uses a double-fold binding with a flat woven drawstring that stayed knotted through a full day of wear. The script lettering across the front is a printed appliqué with a soft edge; the two lower-leg patches are stitched, not heat-sealed.

The one construction detail we would flag is the side seam itself. It is a single pass of overlocking on a very light fabric, so it is the first place we would expect to see strain if the shorts get regular hard use.

Cold-wash shrinkage test

One cold machine wash at 30 °C, no dryer, hung to dry. Length loss came in at about 1 cm on the outseam and roughly 0.5 cm on the waist, both inside the range we would call normal for polyester and not enough to change the fit category. Colour held; the black did not bleed into the white cotton towel we washed alongside it. The shorts were dry on the line in under two hours, which is the behaviour the fibre list predicts.

Fit and what the five-point cut means in practice

Five-point is a Chinese sizing term for a mid-thigh short that ends above the knee, and that is what arrived. The leg is straight rather than tapered, so the opening stays wide enough for lifting a knee without the hem climbing. With slight stretch and a drawstring waist, the fit is forgiving in the two places that usually go wrong on cheap shorts: the seat and the thigh. Sizes run M, L, XL, 2XL and 3XL across white, black, orange and green; the title names black, so confirm your colourway with the seller if you want anything else.

One catalogue inconsistency worth knowing: the same listing carries a Summer 2025 launch field and a Summer 2024 launch field. Treat the season label as unverified.

Sport-casual styling

In a Rotterdam summer rotation the black pair behaved like a neutral. It sat easily under a plain white T-shirt and low-top sneakers, and it took a hoodie and crew socks without looking like gym kit that never made it home. The script lettering does the visual work, so patterned tops fight it; a plain tee, an open overshirt or a light hoodie is where this short reads best. The printed front graphic and the two patch details are the only branding, and neither is loud enough to stop the pair working as a basic.

What we could not verify

Durability beyond one wash cycle is unproven. There are no independent buyer claims attached to this listing, so our read covers the fabric, the measurements, the construction and the finish — not long-term wear. Anyone who needs documented performance before paying is buying on faith here. Our fit score for the delivered pair is 4 / 5, with the missing published size chart and the light side seam doing the holding back.

If you want this short, order the way we did: message the seller for flat waist, hip and inseam figures on your intended size, then lay the numbers over a pair of shorts you already own. At $7.46 that is a small amount of work for a light, correctly described summer short.

How we tested

Unboxing filmed before the bag was opened. Three-point flat measurement against seller-supplied figures, labels, care tag and size sticker photographed, packaging crush noted on arrival. Apparel also gets a seam-allowance check and a re-measure after one cold wash. Two editors sign off before a fit note is final.

Product listing verified on 2026-10-07.

What fabric are these shorts made from?

Polyester is named as the main fibre on the listing and on the care label we photographed, with slight stretch that measured roughly 2 cm across the leg panel. It is a light plain weave, positioned for summer wear.

Which colours and sizes are offered?

The listing shows white, black, orange and green in M, L, XL, 2XL and 3XL. The title names black specifically, so confirm any other colourway with the seller before ordering.

Are there buyer reviews for this item?

No independent buyer claims are attached to this listing. Our notes cover the delivered pair only: measurements, fabric, construction and one cold wash, not long-term durability.
